Why Viagra (Sildenafil Citrate) Won't Improve Your Sex Life

How Sildenafil created waves

After it was lunched in 1998 in US, it became a run away success. Many people suffering from Erectile Dysfunction (ED) swear by this 'wonder' drug.

People with ED have claimed that their relationship with their partners improved after they started using Viagra. Personal stories of people are available on internet as videos and articles. Many medical professionals have testified and endorsed what their patients reported. If what all these people say is correct then this drug can definitely reduce human suffering.

But what worries most is that people who do not have any ED problems have started popping this pill indiscriminately. It has become a wonder drug at the weekend parties. People have started consuming this drug for fun. And this is something that is a cause of concern. We have forgotten that this drug is to be taken only when prescribed by a registered medical practitioner.

The History Of Viagra

Originally this drug was developed for cardiac patients. During clinical trials it was found that its benefits were no better than the much cheaper drugs already available in the market. Company immediately withdrew it as it was costing them dearly. But some patients, who were taking this drugs showed reluctance to stop using this drug. It was found that patients experienced erection within an hour of consuming a drug. These clinical findings were recorded and became a blessing in disguise for the company. Marketing team sprung to action. Based on the (failed cardiac) clinical trial data, Sildenafil Citrate was registered as a sure fire treatment for ED.

The Reality

In reality, Viagra dilates the blood vessels improving the blood supply. It doesn't alone supply more blood to genitals, in fact, all your organs will get higher amount of blood. Face will grow reddish due increased circulation beneath the skin.

It is not the Wonder drug that most people think.

Most of the times, it is the name, Viagra, that does the trick. It was proved through an experiment where 85% of the people who were given placebos reported erection. So, it is more of a psychological effect than biological.

How to prevent Erectile Dysfunction

Hardening of arteries (or atherosclerosis) is the major cause of ED. Other reasons are heart disease, high B.P., obesity, diabetes, etc. Other non-clinical reasons can be stress, anxiety and some times phobia. These clinical conditions can be treated with medication and others with counselling. But I believe in prevention and not the cure.

Most of doctors said adopting healthy lifestyle can definitely reduce occurrence of this problem. Those with the family history of any of the disease listed above have to be extra cautious.

  • They need to work out regularly and need to watch what they eat.

  • Giving up smoking and at least controlling alcohol consumption is also advisable.

  • As per some studies, taking anti-oxidants in the form of Vit. E and C can greatly reduce the occurrence and progression of ED.

This is all I have to say about Viagra. Prevention is always better than cure. And it would be more than desirable to prevent such conditions. Viagra is a quick fix and is definitely not a permanent solution.

So get healthy guys, coz its your right!
