Rise Above the Criticism to Succeed

Image
"When we judge or criticize another person, it says nothing about that person; it merely says something about our own need to be critical."   - Unknown We come across hundreds of people who constantly criticize other people or person for no reason. Even I found myself doing that most of the times. Soon I realized that this particular habit was actually keeping me from achieving my dreams. Why? Because to criticize someone/something we need to: Spend valuable time & effort in observing the person/situation Analyze the situation so as to find the areas to be critical about And finally verbalize ideas so that what you say makes sense to the other person In short, criticizing requires a good deal of creativity & a lot of deliberation. There can be thousands of reasons for people to criticize others. I have listed the most important ones below: They are insecure & often have inferiority. They are frustrated with their own shortcomings. They suffer

365 Hours To Better Life

Image
During my management education, I was introduced to the concept of  KAIZEN . It is a Japanese word that simply means  "Continuous Improvement" . This concept was widely used in Japan to drastically improve the quality of production. Using this principle of continuous improvement, Japan leapfrogged to become a 2nd biggest economy in the world. In essence, this concept teaches us to strive to make improvement in whatever that we do. As per this philosophy, we should continue to look for ways to make some qualitative improvements in every process that we undertake. Looking closely, we can see that  KAIZEN  can be applied to virtually anything. Any activity, whether commercial or non-commercial, can be improved using this concept. Anyone can dramatically improve any aspect of his/her life by using this principle. Be it health, job, income, business, relationship,  anything. And all one needs to do is to put in " 365 Hours " next one year putting 1 hour each day

Make Most of Life

Image
We all keep waiting for the right things to happen before we actually do something to change the things around us. But most of us forget that we are losing out on a non renewable resource of our lives -Time. Every thing else in life is replaceable, time is not. If you are one of these people then stop wasting your time and start doing what you always wanted to do. If you kept waiting for the right moment or right opportunity, it is never going to come. The right time is now. Do it now.  No matter what you want to do, just do it. Don't spend too much time preparing. Preparation is necessary but too much of it can potentially make you lose the opportunity at hand. Your best years will be gone before you know it. You will be engrossed in your life and won't realize it untill you are 60 years old. This is what happens to 99% of the people. They keep postponing the things to the point that it becomes impossible to do them. Don't fall in a procrastination trap. The ea

Destiny Calling

People often complain about the number of failures they have faced. And after couple of episodes , they give up on their dreams. What they fail to realize is that life has a different mechanism of delivering goods. Let’s take an example of Mr. Soichino Honda, founder of Honda Corporation. When he began , he was desperately trying to sell some piston rings (which are used in car engines) with little success. He had put in a lot of efforts and money into its development. It was time of World War II and economy of Japan was all time low.Mr. Honda was short of finances, so much so that it became difficult for him to pay for the fuel for his car. So he developed a small engine that would consume much less fuel and fitted that to his bicycle. This invention helped him save substantially on his fuel bills. Few of his neighbors and friends, who were facing similar problems, asked him if he could manufacture such Motor-Cycles for them as well. This is how the idea picked up and rest,

What Matters, Conviction or Resources?

We often see individuals often evade the responsibility of their own actions. They blame every thing around them for their failures. Most commonly incarcerated thing is lack of resources. But do resources really matter? I am not underestimating the importance of resources, but there are people around us who lacked very basic amenities and analyzing their circumstances one can easily point out that they had a very slim chance of making their dreams come true. I personally know a person who had absolutely no resources at his disposal but had a dream, dream of becoming a doctor. Let's call him AK. He was born in a small and very backward village in Central India. His father was teacher and also owned some land and some cattle. AK's father was in the transferable job so his wife (AK's mother) looked after the farming activities. AK helped his mother by taking care of the cattle. He used to take them for grazing after his morning school. He always carried his books along. W

Love and Use

I heard someone say, Love people and use things. Most people seem to do the exact opposite, they love things and use people. They have highest regard for their material acquisitions. But the world is sure filled with gems who really give highest importance to humans. I was travelling with one of my relatives. He was driving is brand new Swift D'sire. It had hardly been six month since he purchased this car. It was a warm summer morning and we were going to a restaurant for a breakfast. As we waited at a traffic signal for lights to turn green, an old Premere Padmini bumped into our car from behind. My uncle immediately jumped out of the car and rushed to the car that hit us. An elderly gentleman, who was probably in his sixties, came out of the car and in a very apologetic tone started speaking to my uncle. About 15-20 people gathered around us within a minute of an accident. Uncle's car was badly damaged. The tail light was completely crushed and there appeared a

Finish It

I have closely observed several individuals who had a very ordinary beginning in life. But with a passage of time, they emerged as much more successful than most of their fortunate peers.Whether into business or Job, they all had one common characteristic-  Ability to finish the task . It looks simple but it is true. All the successful people have this ability to finish the task they undertake. Day after day, month after month, year after year; we can see them finishing one task after another. That is the reason they are successful. So if we want to achieve something worthwhile, this is the habit we need to inculcate. To simplify, we can begin with the following: Make a list of the things we need to do. Identify the most important things and second most important things. Do the most important ones the first thing in a day And then finish the second most important ones. Now make one more list and keep following the process. The ground rule is to  "Never leave any wor

Emotional Intelligence & Gratification

We are always in a catch 22 situation when it comes to rating EQ and IQ. People often find themselves confused over the importance of one over the other. The whole world has been advocating having higher IQ. We literally bow to the people with higher IQs. Number of experts and equal number of tests available today have confirmed the supremacy of higher IQs. I, like many, had similar view points about the importance of IQ to achieve success in life. The world around us has bolstered our belief by exhibiting how people with higher IQs secured admissions to best of the schools in the world and how they are much ahead in life than most of us and how they enjoying the (material) fruits of life. The generation Y or Z believes in instant gratification. It is unfortunate how we are bombarded with the idea of instant gratification. Nothing wrong in fulfilling our material needs, but if it is the only thing we are worried about, then it becomes a problem. Such people are extremel

Identifying the Future leaders

Image
One of the most crucial decisions to take while expanding a team is to "Who is the right person for more responsibility?" A lot has been said and professed about the leadership development within the team. I typically look for the people who exhibit the following traits: They think about the team:  I have had opportunity lead the team of exceptionally talented people who are now heading their respective teams. This traits one of the most conspicuous one. They think about the total team not for themselves alone. They always put the objectives of the team ahead of their own. They usually come out with new/better ideas to handle any situation:  When you take time out to think about the organisation, only then you get good ideas. This shows that you are thinking about the challenges of the group. That also shows how involved you are in what the team is trying to achieve. They give due credit to their team members:  It is often observed that some people in the team take

Using the 108 Emergency Ambulance Service

108 Emergency Ambulance Service is finally launched in Maharashtra. Better late than never. This service is based on the concept of Golden Hour to save lives of the people. As per this concept, If the person gets necessary medical help within one hour of traumatic injury or any other type of medical emergency, then the survival rates of such individuals increase significantly.  So in short the time is of essence-Time is life! Knowing ' what not to do ' becomes more important that  'what to do' Dial 108 only when someone needs medical help coz it is our tax money that is supporting this venture. You have no idea where the nearest healthcare center is (If you know any nearest hospital, take the person there immediately. Don't waste time calling 108) You do not have vehicle to shift the person/s needing medical help You do not know the exact place where you are (They will not be able to locate you if you do not know where you are) Must Do If
